Khmer King Jayaraman VII built roads leading to and from Angkor Wat (Siem Rep, Cambodia) and Phi Mai (near Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand). Along the route there are a number of old Chapels called Dharmasalas. In today's Thailand there are 17. It is thought these chapels where places of worship and refuge for Pilgrims walked the route.
I became interested in following this route by discovering a site on the internet. Nightrider has kindly posted photos and track/waypoints.

Bike: Honda CRF250L

Type of roads: Tar back roads, dirt roads, trails

Difficulty: easy / moderate

Ride Description: Great ride going to many dams and back roads towards the Cambodian boarder where the beginning of the ancient route enters into Thailand. Good riding and a lesson in history too. Many of the old chapels are now in ruins but have a place next to current day temples.

The original road has mostly disappeared but the gps tracks follow a mix of roads and back roads and tracks to find all of the 17 temples now mostly in ruins. The ride takes the rider to rural back blocks of East Thailand and is a real treat. Nightrider lists comfortable cheap hotel waypoints.

I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and want to one day complete the Cambodian side.
The tracks here are from my ride, Nightrider also has slightly different ones on his site and good photos of his journey
