This is still known to be open and can be done in stock jeep or H3. The NPS advises you bring 2 spare tires to this desolate area to be safe. Each of the 5 rigs carried one spaire and had plug/ patch/and sidewall stitch kit available. We made this trip without any flats. By the looks of some of the dried ruts, I would not want to be out here when it is wet.

We used 2M Ham for communications. In places there are spider webs of roads and several gates to leave as you found them and one member could quickly become lost if relying on the short range of a CB.

We drove from Mesquite to Tuweep in a single day and made it before dark to set up camp at Tuweep. Advance reservations need to be made for the group camp site through NPS and special request for larger than groups of 4.

The Tuweep cliffs do not have guard rails and you can look straight down over 1/2 mile to see the Colorado river. Bring a good camera. There are good toilets in the campground for the fearful of height issues.
